Artist Statement
Is it possible to capture human truth with a camera? I believe not. A camera in a room provokes self-consciousness and performance. Yet a futile urge to authentically represent the ‘truth’ compels me to create moving image work.
About Being attempts to capture a glimpse of the individual truths of a group of adults with intellectual disabilities. Over the course of seven workshop weeks, seven participants explored their identities and were invited to sit in front of a film camera, appear as they wished and ‘be’ themselves without direction. The result lies somewhere between performance and truth.
