THE RUNAWAY GIBBON
A picturebook for highly sensitive children.
Highly sensitive children have strengths that are often overlooked in today’s society, including heightened empathy, intuitiveness, awareness, curiosity and more. With 15-20% of children falling into the category of highly sensitive, the goal of this project is to use picturebooks to help highly sensitive children embrace their strengths.
This picturebook was created for children aged 3-6 years. It is designed to be read in the company of a parent or guardian in the hopes to nurture a highly sensitive child’s natural abilities while entertaining them along the way. The book’s illustration style uses traditional watercolour methods to reflect the highly sensitive child’s characteristics. Other facets of the book developed to cater to highly sensitive children were typography, colour palette, layout, and the story itself.
While the picturebook should appeal to all children, its primary purpose is for highly sensitive children.
