Biography:
Cara Cleary is a German Irish Artist who is a GMIT/ATU CCAM Graduate of 2022. She lived most of her life in Berlin, the States and then moved to Ireland for College. Throughout her life travelling has always been a huge part of her life. On all these trips she came across many different people with vastly dissimilar lives to her own. Her bicultural background made her curious to how others dealt with not fitting in to one specific category of identity. It made her want to explore the similarities and differences of humans while still showing their connection to one another. Her mixed-media work underlines her want to show the mixes of personality while still creating a cohesive set of work.
Statement:
I have always been interested in capturing moments without ruining instances with staged photos. I am known for my quick and candid picture taking. These pictures heavily influence all of my mixed-media pieces and are a huge part of my practice. The work I create should be an immersive experience into the moment without having been there. It is a quick look into my life without getting all the informational input needed to completely understand the context. I want my work to have an identity of its own while still displaying that of the human or object I am depicting.
The way I work is by combining as many mediums as possible to show the variety of people I interact with and aim to present. I never just use one medium because I like learning new things regarding my practice. It is like meeting new people that can teach me something new for my further journey through life.
