Ny name is Gemma O’ Grady. My final year is called “Oneness”. It is a deep dive into the exploration of Mars and its amazing landscape. My designs are created with an ethereal feel with a contemporary edge. In my final designs I have incorporated sustainable woven fabrics like Pinatex, indigo denim and Shibori dyeing. I am exploring traditional Shibori dyeing with a mix of fabric manipulations while highlighting my designs with crystal embroidery accessories.
Aoife Carr
Hi, I’m Aoife! I’m 21 and come from Glencolmcille In Co. Donegal. My Final Year Project looks at the structures and textures of the protective layers within nature, with my research focused primarily on skin and bark. I’ve extracted the colours and intricate details of each and have combined them through textile applications, such as Print and Embroidery. The Fashion Collection which I’ve named “The Connection Between Us”, uses lightweight fabrics and gentle fabric manipulation, which displays a delicate and sophisticated tone and feel.
Clara Weinmann
Hi my name is Clara Weinmann. My final year project is based on my two weeks isolation when my housemate had Covid19, and my collection will be festival clothing. I am mainly focusing on the different emotions I felt and the different objects that I saw on my daily walks to the beach. I want to incorporate the madness that was experienced over the two weeks into my final collection. I want to focus on the contrasts between the different emotions, colours and textures that I felt and saw each day. I am going to use preloved denim jeans for my final collection I will be cutting them into thin strips which will be sewn together and then knitted. I will also be using florescent orange lycra material that was inspired by the bright coloured cones at the covid testing centre and white cotton sateen. I will also be doing hand and machine embroidery, adding embellishments and disperse dying.
Chloe Heaney
Hi my name is Chloe and my final year collection is inspired by the human body. I have grown up with an interest in drawing people and the body, so I have come full circle in dedicating my final year in college to the cause. My initial research consisted of closeup, detailed photographs of the skin; scars, bruises and other textures and marks on the surface of our skin. I mainly used chalk pastel to emulate these images into large scale artwork and have then digitally printed these onto fabric. For Fashion and Textiles, our final year collection includes 3 outfits and mine will be created using my digitally printed fabric.
Branwen O’Halloran
My name is Branwen O’Halloran, I’m from Connemara Co. Galway which is the influence for my Final year project. The title of my graduate project is ‘Savage Beauty’ as it focuses on the Connemara landscape through the winter months. I have used the wind battered trees, the hash storms and the weather of the region as my inspiration to create an atmospheric collection of prints and felted pieces.
